3 Small Gadgets That Quietly Made My Life Easier
Most “must have gadget” lists feature items that you'll purchase, use two times, then put in the drawer.Let's face it, many of the “must-have gadgets” lists include things that you'll buy, use twice, then put away in a drawer. This isn't that list! I use all these three times a week, and they're all inexpensive, effective, and really solve problems I would otherwise have to pay for but that are just annoying. Let's get into it.
1. Metal Credit/Debit Card Holder with Cube Mirror Design.
Description:
A thin metal case for cards, which serves two functions: 1: It holds cards securely; 2: There is a small built-in cube mirror along the length of the case. May seem gimmicky, but it works once you get the hang of it.
Key Features:
- Reliable Build, Pocket/Fast Serving
- Carries more than one card (debit, credit, ID card, metro/tube card, etc.)
- No bulk to your wallet—great for a pocket that is limited in space
Practical Use Cases:
- A simple and compact solution for when a heavy wallet isn't really practical.
- Useful for students/commuters that only need cards + ID + a quick mirror for on-the-go use.
Pros:
- A true two-in-one design that is user-friendly.
- Sturdy metal feel, doesn't feel cheap
- Smaller than a bracelet, long girl, yet easy to slip in any pocket
Cons:
- Limitations in number of available cards when you're carrying many cards
Verdict:
This is a nice, inexpensive feature on a standard card holder. Perhaps not a difference that brings about a new way of living, but one of those things that when you see, you think, "Why don't all cardholders have a mirrored card?
2. Mini Sealing Machine for Food Packets
Description:
This small hand-held device is kind of like a mini ironing machine when it comes to plastic bags. Transport it on an open snack bag or biscuit pack or packet of chips and it will heat seal the opening for you in seconds.
Key Features:
- A battery-powered (usually) small, light device that can require very little space.
- Seal or reseal plastic polyvinyl chloride:
- Works on most thin plastic food packaging surfaces and containers
- Simple one-button operation
Practical Use Cases:
- Packing half-opened packets of chips so they can refuse to go stale!
- Some ideas to help store pantry items for longer: Cakes, cookies, boxes of namkeen and cereal packets
- Great for parents who are keeping kids' snack stashes in check!
- Ideal for those who don't like using clips or rubber bands when closing food bags
Pros:
- Answers a very common household problem
- No learning curve—super easy to use!
- Compact for use in a drawer
Cons:
- Works best with thinner plastic; two passes may be necessary for thicker or laminated packaging
- Results vary pack to pack, and battery life may vary.
Verdict:
It's one of these "Why didn't I get this years ago?” gadgets. It will solve a problem found in almost any home — stale snacks from the opened packet.
3. Mobile Stand
Description:
An easy-to-use and compact stand designed to hold your cell phone at an angle so you can view it comfortably without resting your hands on it. This nifty little piece of equipment reduces strain on the hands and the neck while you watch videos and attend calls or when you are following a recipe while preparing your meal.

- Conference calls without using a speaker phone throughout. Face-to-face conference call without speaking via the phone the whole time.
- When using recipes in the kitchen, use your hands instead of the screen! While using recipes in the kitchen, use your hands rather than the screen with hands—messy!
- Working with cell phones as a secondary monitor / notes show
Pros:
- It livens the experience of long video sessions, in a true sense!
- Lightweight and travel-friendly
- Easy access to desk or nightstand upgrades at affordable prices.
Cons:
- If you have a heavy phone, consider the cheaper stands, as they may be a tad shaky.

Something with a minimal amount of money that makes a great deal of difference to the comfort of your day—particularly if you spend a large amount of your time on video calls or consuming content on your mobile device.
